The San Francisco 49ers are preparing to field a representative first unit when they face the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday night. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Tuesday that 'a number' of starters will participate in the game, differing from their previous preseason matchup.
Shanahan stated, 'Not all of them, but I expect a number of starters to play, unlike last week,' indicating that the players will be informed soon about their participation. He also mentioned that there is a 'good chance' starting quarterback Brock Purdy will play, although he has not yet communicated this to Purdy.
The 49ers and Chargers recently conducted a joint practice in Los Angeles, which took place on Tuesday. In their preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans last week, San Francisco's starters did not take the field.
Kickoff for the game between the 49ers and Chargers is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET on Thursday.
