The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly adding wide receiver Dante Pettis after injuries left the team short-handed at the position. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported the move, which was also covered by Yahoo Sports.
Pettis, 30, entered the NFL as San Francisco's second-round selection in 2018. Before that, he played four seasons at Washington, where he established an FBS record with nine punt-return touchdowns and received All-Pac-12 and All-American recognition.
Pettis spent his first three NFL seasons with the 49ers, recording 38 receptions for 576 yards and seven touchdowns in 28 games. He later played for the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants and Chicago Bears, totaling 54 catches, 655 yards and six touchdowns across 38 games.
San Francisco is currently without Ricky Pearsall, De'Zhaun Stribling, Christian Kirk and Demarcus Robinson, while Mike Evans could also be unavailable. The report said Pettis may be able to contribute quickly because of his previous experience in the 49ers' system. Further details about the signing were not provided.
