Trent Williams left the San Francisco 49ers' 36-30 victory over the Arizona Cardinals during the third quarter and was taken to the locker room by cart. The 49ers finished the game with a 3-0 record, but Williams did not return after the injury.
The team described the injury as a stinger. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Williams' neck was involved. Williams, who has been selected to 12 Pro Bowls, was seen without his helmet as he was transported from the field.
The incident came during a play involving running back Christian McCaffrey. With 11:07 remaining and San Francisco ahead 14-6, McCaffrey attempted to jump into the end zone. Williams was seen face down in the end zone after landing awkwardly on his shoulder and taking time to get up.
Williams later appeared on the 49ers' sideline, while Vederian Lowe took his place. Williams has been a regular part of San Francisco's offensive line for the past seven years, making the Pro Bowl in each of the past six seasons and earning All-Pro recognition from 2021 through 2023.
The injury followed other personnel losses for San Francisco. Veteran wide receiver Mike Evans was ruled out of the game with a rib injury. De'Zhaun Stribling is on injured reserve, while Christian Kirk and Ricky Pearsall were lost before the season began. The team also lost Nick Bosa this week because of a leg injury.
