His progress has been hindered by a recent concussion that caused him to miss some training time.
Currently, Colby is receiving fewer first-team reps, while Jones is sharing snaps with Willis. The team is eager for Willis to demonstrate his potential as a starter. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan expressed optimism about the remaining time in the preseason, stating, "I still think we've got a lot more time to go, not a ton, but enough for guys to step up and do it."
He acknowledged that Willis's concussion has put him at a disadvantage but is hopeful that a full week of practice will help him catch up.
The upcoming second preseason game against the Chargers will be crucial for Willis. While he is expected to face difficulties, the 49ers are looking for any positive indicators that he can be a viable option at left guard.
