The Los Angeles Chargers elevated tight end Patrick Herbert from their practice squad, setting up his NFL debut alongside his brother, quarterback Justin Herbert, in Sunday's road game against the Buffalo Bills. The move came after David Njoku and Charlie Kolar were ruled out because of injuries.
Los Angeles has lost its first two games by 12 points each. The Chargers' offense has struggled early in both contests, and Patrick Herbert now gives the team another tight end option for the matchup in Buffalo.
Patrick Herbert played college football at Oregon from 2019 through 2024, the same program attended by his older brother. He entered the NFL as an undrafted player in 2025 and spent last season on the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad.
During his Oregon career, Herbert played in 43 games and recorded 31 receptions for 388 yards and four touchdowns. His blocking has been viewed as a bigger strength than his receiving.
