The San Francisco 49ers issued their first official practice participation report of the regular season on Tuesday, revealing a generally positive outlook regarding injuries. Only one player from the 53-man roster was noted as a non-participant, while nine players were listed as limited participants, and one player was fully active.
Defensive tackle James Thompson Jr. was the only player who did not participate due to a hamstring injury. This development raises concerns for the undrafted rookie, as hamstring injuries can be challenging to recover from. Fortunately for the 49ers, their roster has sufficient depth to manage Thompson's potential absence for Thursday night's game.
Among those with limited participation were several key players, including defensive end Nick Bosa and tight end George Kittle, both dealing with knee and Achilles injuries, respectively. Other limited participants included defensive tackle Alfred Collins, linebacker Luke Gifford, cornerback Renardo Green, linebacker Dre Greenlaw, defensive tackle Gracen Halton, defensive end Romello Height, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, and tight end Kittle.
The limited status of Bosa and Kittle is not unexpected, as the team aims to ensure their readiness for the season opener without rushing their return.
Cornerback Upton Stout was the only player listed as a full participant, which is encouraging news for the team, particularly as he serves as a backup nickel cornerback. The 49ers will provide two additional practice reports before their upcoming game against the Rams, allowing time for players to improve their participation levels.
