Wesley Bailey could take on a larger role for the Los Angeles Rams after the team placed edge rusher Myles Garrett on injured reserve Thursday. Garrett will miss at least four games, and no corresponding roster move had been made at the time of the report, leaving the Rams to rely on players already under contract for Monday’s game against the New York Giants.
Bailey, an undrafted rookie from Louisville, is among the players expected to help fill the gap. Coach Sean McVay said Bailey would be relied on in the interim, including on special teams and in responsibilities that vary depending on the Rams’ personnel groupings.
Bailey played two special teams snaps in the season opener against the San Francisco 49ers. He could be in line for his first defensive snaps after performing well during training camp. Ty Simpson, Max Klare and C.J. Daniels were expected to be healthy scratches for the week, while third-round offensive tackle Keagen Trost was on injured reserve.
The Canadian edge rusher stands just under 6 feet 5 inches and weighs 260 pounds. At his pro day, he recorded a broad jump of more than 10 feet, a 35-inch vertical leap and a 4.69-second 40-yard dash. Bailey spent six years in college, playing his first five seasons at Rutgers before transferring to Louisville, and finished with 15.5 sacks.
Bailey was selected in the second round of the CFL Draft but went undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Rams kept him on their 53-man roster after his preseason performance. Byron Young remains a starter, while Josaiah Stewart is expected to take on more starting work after making six tackles in Week 1.
