California Memorial Stadium will take on a new designation under a multi-year agreement between Cal Athletics and Databricks. The Golden Bears’ home venue will be known as Databricks Field at California Memorial Stadium.
Cal Athletics described the arrangement as the largest partnership in its history. Databricks branding debuted during Cal’s nationally televised game against Clemson, and the company will serve as the athletics department’s designated provider for enterprise data and artificial-intelligence services.
The agreement has ties to Berkeley, where research conducted at the university from 2009 through 2013 contributed to Databricks’ origins. Company co-founders, including CEO Ali Ghodsi, have continued to maintain connections with the university.
“My co-founders and I came to Berkeley as academics with the belief that data and AI would transform every organization,” Ghodsi said, according to Cal Athletics. “Databricks Field at California Memorial Stadium is our way of investing back into this community.”
The company’s name will also appear on Cal football helmets starting with the Oct. 3 game at UNLV. Databricks will be the namesake of a club at the stadium, and its branding will be displayed at Haas Pavilion during Cal basketball, volleyball and gymnastics events.
