Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey returned to practice Friday as the team prepared for its Week 2 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. McConkey had not taken part in the Chargers’ Wednesday or Thursday practices.
McConkey injured his ribs while attempting to catch a pass during Los Angeles’ Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The report did not establish whether he was a limited or full participant Friday, so his availability for Sunday’s game remains unclear. His return to the field gives him an opportunity to play against Las Vegas.
The Chargers are already without wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith, who was placed on injured reserve earlier in the week. If McConkey cannot play, Los Angeles could rely on Quentin Johnston, Tre’ Harris, Derius Davis and Brenen Thompson at receiver.
Los Angeles enters the matchup looking to recover from its season-opening loss, while the Raiders are seeking a 2-0 start after defeating the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. The Chargers’ schedule becomes more difficult after the game, with five of their next seven contests on the road and six against teams that made the playoffs in 2025.
Four of Los Angeles’ final six games are also scheduled to be away from home. Since the NFL moved to a 17-game schedule in 2021, eight of the 40 teams that began a season 0-2 reached the playoffs. The AFC West also includes the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos, while the Raiders could gain an early advantage over Los Angeles with a second victory.
