Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey was absent from the team’s opening practice of Week 2 on Wednesday, Sept. 16, after suffering a rib injury in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. He worked away from the rest of the team with trainers, according to sports.yahoo.com.
McConkey was hurt during the third quarter after a hit over the middle and did not return to the game. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that the team would evaluate the injury from day to day, but he did not provide a projected timetable for McConkey’s return.
If McConkey cannot play this week, the Chargers could rely more on Quentin Johnston, Tre’ Harris and rookie Brenen Thompson at wide receiver. Derius Davis is also dealing with an injury, while KeAndre Lambert-Smith was placed on injured reserve earlier this week.
Safety Elijah Molden, offensive lineman Trey Pipkins and defensive tackle Teair Tart also missed Wednesday’s practice because of hamstring, knee and ankle injuries, respectively. Defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and cornerback Deane Leonard were limited, while edge rusher Akheem Mesidor and returner Derius Davis fully participated. McConkey’s availability for the game was not yet clear.
