The Los Angeles Chargers have announced that starting center Tyler Biadasz will miss the entire season due to a season-ending ACL injury. Biadasz sustained the injury during a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers last week. He was carted off the field after being injured when 49ers defensive lineman Sebastian Valdez fell into his legs during an 11-on-11 drill.
Biadasz, 28, was a significant offseason acquisition, having signed a three-year, $30 million contract after being released by the Washington Commanders. He was expected to enhance the Chargers' offensive line, replacing Bradley Bozeman, who had been the starting center for the previous two seasons.
In his absence, rookie Jake Slaughter will step in as the starting center. Slaughter, a second-round draft pick, was originally competing for the left guard position but will now transition back to center, a position he played during his college career at Florida.
This injury marks the second consecutive season that the Chargers have faced a major offensive line injury during training camp. Last year, left tackle Rashawn Slater suffered a torn patellar tendon shortly after signing a lucrative contract extension. The Chargers' offensive line has struggled with injuries, impacting quarterback Justin Herbert's protection.
