The Los Angeles Chargers announced that starting center Tyler Biadasz has been placed on season-ending injured reserve. Biadasz sustained a left knee injury during joint practices with the San Francisco 49ers last week when a defensive lineman fell into his leg, causing him to be carted off the field.
Initially, Biadasz sought additional medical opinions with hopes of returning this season. However, after the Chargers' preseason loss to the 49ers, head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed that Biadasz had suffered an ACL injury, stating that the prognosis was not promising but did not officially rule him out at that time.
Biadasz, who signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Chargers this offseason, was a significant addition to the team under new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. His ability to block on the move made him a key asset, expected to improve the offensive line over previous center Bradley Bozeman.
In light of Biadasz's injury, the Chargers will now rely on rookie Jake Slaughter as his replacement. Drafted in the second round in April, Slaughter was initially expected to compete for the starting left guard position but will now take over the center role. He has shown comfort at center during training camp and the preseason, where he played exclusively in college at Florida.
