In the Los Angeles Chargers' final preseason game, DJ Uiagalelei demonstrated a more effective performance than Trey Lance, though the team has yet to name a backup quarterback behind Justin Herbert.

Trey Lance, who led the offense for two drives, failed to complete any passes, with one series resulting in a three-and-out and the other ending in a sack on fourth-and-1. In contrast, Uiagalelei played a longer stint, completing 11 of 18 passes for 141 yards, appearing more capable in managing the Chargers' offense.

After the game, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh commented on Uiagalelei's performance, stating, "I thought he did some good things" when asked about the quarterback's showing. Harbaugh previously indicated that both Lance and Uiagalelei were in a competitive battle for the backup position.

Trey Lance was drafted third overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, following a significant trade that involved three first-round picks and a third-round pick. Despite the high expectations, Lance has struggled to develop as a quarterback over his first five seasons in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Uiagalelei joined the Chargers as an undrafted rookie last year and spent the entire season on the practice squad, lacking regular-season experience.

It remains uncertain whether Harbaugh will choose Uiagalelei as Herbert's backup, given that both quarterbacks have shown inconsistencies during the preseason.
