On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Chargers published their initial unofficial depth chart in preparation for their season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. The chart revealed several key placements, though there were few surprises overall.
Tight end Oronde Gadsden II is positioned behind both Charlie Kolar and David Njoku on the depth chart. At left guard, Kayode Awosika and Trey Pipkins are listed as co-starters, although it is anticipated that Awosika will take the starting role in Week One, with a possibility of being replaced if performance issues arise.
Del'Shawn Phillips has been named the starting linebacker alongside Daiyan Henley, while Denzel Perryman is currently on injured reserve. It is expected that Phillips, Troy Dye, and Marlowe Wax will rotate in the linebacker position, providing support to Henley as needed.
Derius Davis continues to hold the starting positions for both punt returns, with Brenen Thompson as the backup, and kick returns, with Keaton Mitchell backing him up. Gadsden is expected to receive significant playing time at tight end, as offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel plans to implement multiple tight end sets this season due to the depth at the position.
