The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for the NFL's roster cut deadline, which is set for Sunday, August 30, at 3:00 PM Pacific Time. By this deadline, teams must reduce their rosters from 90 players to 53.

Following their recent preseason win against the Las Vegas Raiders, the 49ers have begun the process of evaluating their roster. While some cuts are expected to be straightforward, the team faces challenging decisions regarding tight position battles, especially considering several injuries and new rules regarding injured reserve (IR) designations.

Under the new IR rules, teams can place two players on IR and designate them for return without occupying a spot on the 53-man roster. This adds complexity to the decision-making process as the 49ers assess which players to retain.

After the cuts, players may go through waivers or become free agents. Those who clear waivers can re-sign with the practice squad, while others may seek opportunities with different teams or return to the 49ers' practice squad.

The 49ers will not hold any practices until after the roster cuts are finalized, making their recent game the last opportunity to evaluate players before the regular season opener against the Los Angeles Rams on September 10 in Melbourne, Australia.
