Aaron Donald said he expects to return to NFL action when the Los Angeles Rams play the New York Giants on Monday, although his final availability will depend on how he responds to upcoming practices.
Donald said he felt good after two practices and planned to take part in another before the team makes a final determination. The game would mark his first NFL appearance since the Rams lost to the Detroit Lions in the playoffs on Jan. 14, 2023.
The Rams are preparing to play without Myles Garrett, who had knee surgery and is expected to miss at least through Week 6. Jared Verse was also involved in the roster move connected to Garrett, according to the report.
Donald, 35, averaged more than 12 sacks per season during his first 10 years in the league and recorded 20.5 sacks in 2018. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in each of those seasons and earned first-team All-Pro honors eight times, along with the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
The report noted that Donald’s two-season absence leaves it unclear whether he will immediately return to his previous level of play. His presence could still affect how opposing offenses plan against the Rams and create opportunities for other defenders. A clearer indication of his form is expected when he takes the field, if available, against New York.
