The Los Angeles Rams appear to be in a favorable position regarding a potential suspension for wide receiver Puka Nacua, who is dealing with legal issues related to assault allegations involving accusations that he bit a woman. Tom Pelissero from Netflix provided this update, noting that Nacua has not been placed on the commissioner’s exempt list.
Pelissero indicated that he did not believe suspension was a significant consideration for Nacua, despite the NFL's ability to take action even in the absence of criminal charges. He mentioned that typically, if a suspension were to occur early in the season, it would have been announced before the cutdown day, which is notably two weeks before the regular season opener this year.
He suggested that if a suspension were forthcoming, it would likely be announced soon.
The situation is complicated by separate allegations of mental abuse from Nacua's ex-partner, Hallie Aino, as well as accusations of making antisemitic remarks during the same outing where the alleged assault occurred. Nacua has faced additional scrutiny over past comments regarding NFL officiating and a planned celebration that included antisemitic tropes, which he ultimately did not perform.
Despite these issues, the Rams, particularly head coach Sean McVay, have continued to support Nacua. Currently, he is also dealing with a psoas injury, which adds another layer of concern regarding his performance. However, it seems the Rams may avoid losing Nacua to a suspension, which would alleviate one significant concern for the team.
