The Los Angeles Rams have received updated expectations for the returns of edge rusher Myles Garrett and wide receiver Puka Nacua, two key players dealing with injuries early in the season.
Garrett went on injured reserve after the Rams’ Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that Garrett is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery and has been given an estimated six-week return window. Garrett must miss at least four weeks, and the Rams are expected to take a cautious approach.
A four-week absence could have allowed Garrett to return before the Rams’ Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals. A six-week recovery would also keep him out against the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers, with a possible return before the team’s Week 8 matchup with the Washington Commanders. The team hopes the procedure reduces his discomfort and swelling.
Coach Sean McVay previously declined to set a firm timetable. “I'm reluctant to put a timeline on it,” McVay said, adding that Garrett would not be rushed and would need to be ready for the work required to perform at his usual level. Josaiah Stewart, Byron Young, Wesley Bailey and Desjuan Johnson have been handling his absence.
Bailey recorded the first sack of his career against the Giants in Week 2.
