Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is dealing with a lower-body injury that has shifted from an earlier groin issue to a hip problem. Coach Sean McVay said the condition is not expected to keep Nacua out long term, although its nature requires the team to be cautious.

Nacua initially sustained a psoas injury during training camp and missed multiple weeks. He returned for the Rams’ Week 1 game and recorded five catches for 74 yards, but the injury has continued to affect him during the regular season.

Speaking to media members Wednesday, McVay said Nacua’s symptoms resemble what he described as a possible pre-hernia feeling. McVay said the medical staff believes allowing time for healing is the best approach and does not view the issue as a long-term threat.

McVay also said Nacua cannot simply play through the injury. The possibility of a hernia has influenced the Rams’ decision to handle the receiver conservatively, although the source said Nacua is not undergoing hernia surgery. The timeline for his return was not provided.

Without Nacua available, Davante Adams produced a major performance in Week 2. Adams caught eight passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns in the Rams’ 28-6 victory over the New York Giants, averaging 24.2 yards per reception.

The Rams have relied on Adams while Nacua has been sidelined. The source described the two receivers as a strong combination, while noting that Los Angeles remains a threat with Adams playing without Nacua.
