Rams coach Sean McVay provided updates on three players injured during the loss to the Denver Broncos. Cornerback Jaylen Watson suffered a dislocated shoulder, while tight ends Colby Parkinson and Terrance Ferguson were diagnosed with sprains.
Watson was hurt while making a defensive play and was helped from the field by the training staff, who supported his arm. McVay said the shoulder dislocation has happened to Watson before. He also said Watson will probably miss the Rams’ next game, but the cornerback will not be placed on injured reserve.
Parkinson left with an injury to his leg. McVay identified it as an AC sprain and said Parkinson’s availability remains undecided. Ferguson appeared to aggravate an ankle problem, and McVay said the tight end has a medial ankle sprain. Ferguson is expected to miss at least the next game.
The injuries affected the Rams’ use of 13 personnel, a package involving three tight ends. Tyler Higbee took on a larger role in the passing game and finished with eight receptions for 62 yards and one touchdown. Higbee and Davis Allen are expected to handle the main tight-end responsibilities while Parkinson and Ferguson are unavailable.
The Rams also had to replace Watson during the game, turning to Emmanuel Forbes Jr. Denver then scored 16 consecutive points in the third quarter and went on to win. Los Angeles is 1-2 and is scheduled to play Philadelphia next, followed by Buffalo, Arizona and Las Vegas.
