Terrance Ferguson strengthened his case for a larger role at tight end as the Los Angeles Rams defeated the New York Giants 28-6 at SoFi Stadium. The victory moved the Rams to the winning side of the standings, and the game also marked Aaron Donald's return after a two-year absence.
Ferguson and Davis Allen opened the game together in a two-tight-end formation. Ferguson played 36 snaps, or 58% of the offense, and finished with six receptions on nine targets. The Rams used him in several positions, including inline, from the slot and in motion. He ran routes on more than 70% of his snaps and accounted for 31% of the team's targets.
After two games, Ferguson leads the Rams' tight ends in routes, receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. He also contributed as a blocker and made plays in coverage, including catches away from his body and yards after the catch. The review noted two drops that remain an issue for him.
Allen played 32 snaps, or 52%, and was used in multiple-tight-end packages. He made two catches on two short targets, including a late-game reception, while the review credited him with improved blocking.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford produced a strong overall performance after an uneven start, according to the review. He moved up the NFL's career lists for touchdown passes, games with four touchdown passes and games with at least 300 passing yards. Running backs Williams and Corum also had productive performances, though the review said fumbles were a concern.
