San Jose State has confirmed that Luke Weaver will be the starting quarterback for their season opener against USC, scheduled for August 29 at the Coliseum in Los Angeles. This announcement was reported by Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Weaver, who transferred from Hawaii, has experience at the junior college level and played five games last season with the Rainbow Warriors. During that time, he completed 60% of his passes, accumulating 628 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions.
This matchup will mark the first time that USC's defense, now led by defensive coordinator Gary Patterson, will face an opposing quarterback. Patterson, previously the head coach at TCU, joined USC's coaching staff in January.
Kickoff for the game is set for 12:00 p.m. Pacific time.
