Landen Roupp left Oracle Park with the lead, and this time the San Francisco Giants kept it.
Roupp worked five innings Thursday night, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts on 95 pitches (60 strikes). ESPN's box score matches that line and lists him as the winner in a 6-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, improving to 8-13 with a 4.25 ERA.
Trent Harris, Carson Seymour and Ryan Walker followed with four scoreless innings of relief, combining for four strikeouts and one walk.
Arizona, still chasing a National League wild card, left San Francisco 1 1/2 games behind San Diego after the loss, the Associated Press reported. The Giants improved to 55-79. The Diamondbacks fell to 71-64.
Bases loaded, then nothing
The Diamondbacks' best chance against Roupp came in the fourth. Gabriel Moreno led off with a home run to left that tied the game 1-1, his 11th of the season. Geraldo Perdomo singled, Tim Tawa walked and Jose Fernandez singled to load the bases with one out.
Roupp got Ildemaro Vargas on a fly to left and struck out Ryan Waldschmidt swinging to end the inning.
Perdomo had stolen second before the walk to Tawa. Moreno finished 1-for-3 with a walk and was later caught stealing in the eighth. Perdomo went 2-for-3 with a walk and finished as Arizona's only multi-hit bat.
Roupp also retired the side in order in the first and worked around a Perdomo walk in the second. Lars Nootbaar's single in the third was Arizona's first hit; Roupp stranded him. After the fourth-inning mess, he retired the side in the fifth before handing the game to the bullpen.
