WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Donovan Walton ended it before the Athletics could think about an 11th inning.
Walton's two-run walk-off home run in the 10th gave the A's a 6-5 win over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night, the Associated Press reported via CBS Sports. He finished 3-for-5 with two RBI. The CBS box lists Lawrence Butler 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and a double, and Jeff McNeil reaching base three times with two hits, an RBI and two runs scored.
Seattle had just taken a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th on Julio Rodríguez's RBI single. Max Muncy started the bottom on second as the automatic runner; Michael Stefanic pinch-ran, and Walton drove Bazardo's pitch over the right-field wall to end it. Eduard Bazardo (3-4) took the loss on a blown save.
Chris Roycroft (2-0) earned the win after allowing that go-ahead run in the top of the 10th.
Butler sets the early tone
Butler, hitless in his previous 16 plate appearances according to the AP, broke a full-count ball for a two-run homer in the third that put the Athletics ahead 4-2. McNeil had doubled home Henry Bolte in the first and later scored when a throwing error let another run across; Butler's blast stretched the lead before Seattle clawed back.
The Mariners tied it in the sixth when Josh Naylor reached on a fielding error by reliever Scott Blewett and pinch-hitter Lázaro Montes followed with a 430-foot two-run homer, the AP said. Butler doubled again in the ninth but was stranded. Seattle's Dominic Canzone had two hits including a triple; Naylor finished with two hits, a steal and two runs.
Cal Raleigh's early RBI had opened the scoring before the A's answered.
Jeffrey Springs worked five innings and allowed two runs for Oakland's club before the bullpen traded zeroes into extras. George Kirby went six for Seattle and allowed four runs on nine hits. Luis Medina, Hogan Harris and Elvis Alvarado each threw a clean inning for the Athletics after Blewett's blown hold.
