Christian Koss kept the plan simple and left Citi Field with a first on his resume.
"I would be happy to [hit homers] against anyone. I think the game plan is, hit the ball hard and hope good things happen. You get two of them and I'm glad to help the team win today," Koss told MLB.com after San Francisco's 9-5 win over the New York Mets on Saturday.
The young shortstop went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI, his first multi-homer game in the majors.
The Associated Press reported it as Koss' first multi-homer game after he entered with four career home runs in 124 games. MLB.com framed his entering total differently, saying he had one home run in 138 at-bats and that it was his first multi-homer game since High-A Greenville on Aug. 5, 2021. The outlets agree on the milestone Saturday; they disagree on the prior count.
Two swings, six Giants homers
Koss' two-run shot in the third traveled 368 feet and scored McCray. His solo blast in the fifth covered 383 feet. ESPN's box matches him at 2-for-4 with two runs, three RBI, and a .211/.253/.310 line with eight RBI on the season after the night. Both homers counted as his second and third of 2026.
Rafael Devers also went deep twice, finishing with three RBI and his 35th homer. Basabe added a two-run shot, and McCray's 420-foot solo in the ninth was the sixth Giants home run of the game.
The Associated Press noted it was the second time this season at least two San Francisco players had multi-homer games on the same night, and the first season with two such games since 1958.
Manager Vitello told MLB.com that Koss deserved the night, pointing to how hard the shortstop has been driven into the wall over his last 10 games. For a club sitting at 59-84, a young middle infielder finding the seats twice is the kind of developmental win that travels with the power surge.
