Montgomery Powers White Sox Offense

B. Montgomery was the driving force behind the Chicago White Sox’s offensive explosion, contributing four runs batted in during Sunday’s game against the Athletics. His performance included a three-run home run in the first inning and a single that scored a teammate in the fifth, helping Chicago secure a 9-1 victory at Rate Field.

The White Sox (50-45) utilized a balanced attack that began early. After an initial exchange of home runs in the top and bottom of the first inning, Chicago seized control with a two-run rally. Teel’s single to right field brought Murakami and Vargas home, setting the stage for Montgomery’s long ball to right field that extended the lead to 6-1.

Pitching Dominance in the Win

Noah Schultz earned the win for Chicago, pitching five innings and allowing only one earned run on four hits while striking out four batters. He was supported by a strong relief corps. Jordan Hicks pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts, followed by Seranthony Dominguez, who also retired the side in order with one strikeout. Tyler Schweitzer closed out the game with two scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

For the Athletics (41-55), J.T. Ginn took the loss after allowing eight earned runs on six hits in 4.1 innings, striking out seven. Jose Suarez, Mark Leiter Jr., and Justin Sterner combined for the final four innings, allowing no further runs. Suarez and Leiter each struck out one batter, while Sterner faced the minimum.

Scoring Breakdown

The Athletics struck first when Langeliers hit a 411-foot home run to left in the first inning. Chicago responded immediately with an Antonacci home run to right, tying the game at 1-1. The White Sox then took the lead with Teel’s single, scoring Murakami and Vargas. Montgomery’s three-run homer to right made it 6-1 before the fifth inning.

Chicago added two more runs in the fifth. Montgomery’s single to left scored C. Montgomery, and Peters’ groundout allowed Benintendi to score. A throwing error by catcher Langeliers and a wild pitch by Suarez allowed Teel to score twice, finalizing the 9-1 margin. The game drew an attendance of 27,175 at Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois.
