Rushing Seals Victory in Extra Innings
Mookie Betts crossed the plate on a fielding error in the 10th inning to tie the score, but it was Rushing who ultimately decided the contest. Rushing singled to center field in the bottom of the 11th, driving in T. Hernández to give the Los Angeles Dodgers an 8-7 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium.
The game remained tightly contested until the late innings. The Rockies took an early lead in the second inning when Tovar hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Carrigg. Los Angeles responded in the third with a two-run homer by Ohtani to left center, putting the Dodgers ahead 2-1. The Los Angeles offense exploded in the fourth inning. Muncy singled to right, allowing Tucker to score, and Rojas followed with a sacrifice fly to center that brought T. Hernández home. Ohtani then singled to center, scoring both Muncy and Rushing to extend the lead to 6-1.
Colorado began chipping away at the deficit. Tovar homered to left in the fifth to make it 6-2. In the sixth, McCarthy singled to center, scoring Carrigg, bringing the Rockies within three runs. The Dodgers appeared to be safe in the ninth, but a crucial play changed the momentum. With the score 4-6, Karros doubled to center, scoring Tovar. Later in the inning, Carrigg doubled to center, scoring Castro and Sullivan. The Dodgers challenged the call at home, and the overturning of the call on the field added two more runs to make it 6-6. McCarthy grounded out to first in the 10th, but Carrigg scored to give Colorado a 7-6 lead. Betts then scored on an error by Rockies second baseman Julien, tying the game at 7-7 and sending the contest to extras.
