Late Surge Secures Victory
The Los Angeles Dodgers overcame a significant early deficit to defeat the San Diego Padres 12-7 at Dodger Stadium. Los Angeles trailed 6-0 entering the fourth inning but scored six unanswered runs to take a 6-7 lead, which they maintained despite late Padres scoring.
Scoring Breakdown
San Diego jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Machado homered to center, driving in Tatis Jr. for a 2-0 advantage. The Padres extended their lead in the second inning. Merrill homered to left center, making it 3-0. Cronenworth followed with a three-run home run to right center, bringing in Bogaerts and Tatis Jr. to make the score 6-0.
Los Angeles began chipping away at the lead in the same inning. Rushing homered to center, scoring Tucker to make it 6-2. In the third inning, Muncy doubled to center to score Betts, followed by Tucker singling to right to bring Muncy home, narrowing the gap to 6-4.
The fourth inning proved pivotal for the Dodgers. Pages doubled to left, scoring Edman and Rushing to tie the game at 6-6. Betts then doubled to center to score Pages, giving Los Angeles a 6-7 lead. Muncy singled to center to score Betts, extending the advantage to 6-8. In the fifth inning, Edman doubled to right to score Rushing, making it 6-9. Edman later scored on a wild pitch by Yuki Matsui.
The Dodgers added insurance runs in the sixth inning when Rushing hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Tucker to make it 6-11. Rushing singled to right in the eighth inning, scoring Tucker again for a 6-12 lead. The Padres scored a final run in the ninth inning when Andujar singled to center, scoring Taylor.
