Tawa provided the decisive blow in the ninth inning, launching a 414-foot home run to center field to secure a 5-3 victory for the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The blast capped a game where Arizona overcame an early deficit to claim the final score. The win improved the Diamondbacks' record to 49-47, while the Dodgers fell to 61-36.
Dodgers Strike Early
Los Angeles, playing at home, jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Ohtani homered 437 feet to center field. The Dodgers extended their advantage in the third inning, capitalizing on a single by Edman to left field. Ohtani scored from first base, and Pages also crossed the plate, with Edman advancing to second on the play. This two-run rally gave Los Angeles a 3-0 lead heading into the middle innings.
Diamondbacks Climb Back
Arizona began chipping away at the deficit in the fifth inning. Arenado doubled to center field, allowing Vargas to score and make it 1-3. The Diamondbacks continued their momentum later in the same frame when Waldschmidt hit a sacrifice fly to right field. Arenado scored from first base, cutting the lead to 2-3, with Tawa advancing to third base.
The tying run arrived in the sixth inning. Gurriel Jr. grounded into a fielder's choice to third base, but Perdomo scored on a throwing error by Dodgers third baseman Muncy. Moreno was also safe at third on the error, tying the game at 3-3. The Diamondbacks took their first lead in the same inning when Vargas singled to right field, scoring Moreno. Vargas was out stretching at second base, leaving Gurriel Jr. in scoring position at third.
