Pleasanton police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday evening at a residence on the 4600 block of Jefferson Court. The department described the event as a potential murder-suicide involving a homeowner and her tenant.

Officers received a call around 7:16 p.m. to perform a welfare check after a neighbor reported being unable to reach the home’s occupants for several days. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the body of Shelly Wang, 64, who had died from gunshot wounds. In a separate room within the same house, they found the body of Evgeniy Ilin, 39.

According to police, Wang owned the property and was renting a room to Ilin. Investigators have not yet determined what led to the shooting. The motive remains unknown at this stage of the inquiry.

The Pleasanton Police Department stated that the incident is being treated as a potential murder-suicide. Officials emphasized that they believe the event was isolated and did not present an ongoing threat to the wider community.
