A memorial ceremony honoring first responders and those affected by the 2001 terrorist attacks is scheduled for next week in Pleasanton. The event marks the 25th anniversary of the attacks and is open to the public. It will take place at the Alameda County Fairgrounds Amphitheater, with proceedings beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11. Interested attendees can register through a provided online link.
Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert expressed hope that the community would unite in remembrance and continue the values of service and strength. The program features a presentation of the colors by the Alameda County Fire Department Honor Guard, live music, a ceremonial bell call, a military rifle salute, and the playing of Taps. Remarks are expected from Haubert and Alameda County Fire Chief Willie McDonald.
In a separate development, Concannon Vineyard has become the first preferred wine partner for Army West Point Athletics. The partnership was announced by officials at Lemmons Family Vineyards. The athletic program, which is 224 years old, includes intramural teams, competitive clubs, and NCAA teams.
Tom Lemmons, the vineyard owner and a former U.S. Army aviator, stated that the collaboration aligns with the history of both institutions, noting the prestige of the military academy and the award-winning status of the winery.
Pleasanton Unified School District high schools have also received national recognition. According to the U.S. News and World Report 2026-27 Best High Schools list, Amador Valley High School was ranked 79th in California and 546th nationally, with a 96% graduation rate. Foothill High School placed 84th in the state and 577th nationally, reporting a 95% graduation rate.
