The Pleasanton Weekly has been recognized with nine first-place awards at the 2025 California Journalism Awards, led by a General Excellence honor for its October 31 and November 7 print editions. The publication also earned second-place finishes in six categories and third- and fifth-place awards in others.
First-place wins spanned investigative reporting, enterprise news, and business coverage, largely driven by the Tri-Valley Downtown Series and an investigation into a Pleasanton principal. Additional top honors went to columns by Gina Channell Wilcox, an editorial by Jeremy Walsh, the Local Scoop newsletter, fine arts writing, and a sports feature on swimmer Luka Mijatovic.
Second-place awards included labor reporting on a city whistleblower lawsuit, immigration coverage of a deportation series, and excellence in collaboration on an opioid project. Other placements recognized layout design, food writing, and a feature on a library’s American Sign Language series. The awards highlight work produced by staff members including Christian Trujano, Jude Strzemp, and Dennis Miller.
