Stanford Health Care has announced plans to reduce its workforce by 95 positions this fall. The organization stated that affected staff will remain on the payroll until November 2, at which point the terminations will become effective.

According to Lisa Kim, a spokesperson for the health system, the roles being eliminated are located within the technology and digital solutions divisions as well as other administrative departments. The employees hold positions at the facility situated at 1830 and 1840 Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto.

Kim explained that the organization periodically assesses its operational requirements to ensure its staffing levels match the evolving needs of the patient population. She noted that the health system is offering support for internal redeployment where feasible and is creating new openings that impacted staff may apply for.

Kim emphasized that the affected positions do not involve direct patient care and that the changes will not impact the quality of care provided.

The spokesperson declined to specify the underlying factors that led to the decision to reduce staff. However, a public filing submitted to the state’s Employment Development Department on August 28 provided a breakdown of the specific job titles involved. The document listed 23 employees with the title of principal clinical systems analyst.

Additionally, 13 positions were identified as team leads for IT clinical applications, and 16 roles were within the human relations department.

This reduction marks the second instance in recent years where a Stanford-affiliated entity has cut staff. Last year, Stanford University laid off 363 employees. While the two organizations operate as separate legal entities, they maintain a close professional partnership.
