Bogaerts Ignites Comeback

Xander Bogaerts provided the spark for the San Diego Padres, driving in three runs in the fourth inning to help erase a three-run deficit. The Padres defeated the Cleveland Guardians 7-5 on Friday at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. The win improved San Diego’s record to 66-57, while Cleveland fell to 59-64. Attendance at the venue was 35,726.

Guardians Build Early Lead

The home team established an early advantage in the second inning when Jose Ramirez homered to left center. The lead expanded in the third inning as Emmanuel Rodriguez homered to right, followed by a single from Lowe that allowed Kwan to score, pushing the Guardians ahead 3-0. Cleveland maintained that cushion until the fourth inning, when the momentum shifted decisively in favor of the visitors.

Padres Storm Back

Bogaerts changed the course of the game with a two-run home run to left center, scoring Merrill and making the score 2-3. Fernando Tatis Jr. added a solo home run to left in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3. The Padres then took the lead on a double by Campusano that scored Cronenworth and Machado.

In the sixth inning, Halpin’s double to center allowed Genao to score, giving the Guardians a brief 5-4 lead. However, the Padres responded in the seventh inning with a double by Campusano that scored France, followed by a sacrifice fly from Bogaerts that brought in Merrill for the go-ahead run.

Pitching Performance

Michael King earned the win for San Diego, pitching six innings while allowing eight hits and three earned runs. He recorded four strikeouts and issued one walk. Yuki Matsui pitched one inning of scoreless relief, allowing one walk.

Jeremiah Estrada pitched one inning, allowing one hit and one earned run with two strikeouts. Bradgley Rodriguez recorded the save, pitching one inning with one hit and two strikeouts.

For Cleveland, Gavin Williams took the loss after pitching four innings and one-third, allowing seven hits and five earned runs. He issued four walks and struck out five batters. Craig Yoho pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one walk and striking out one.

Franco Aleman pitched one inning, allowing one hit and no earned runs. Colin Holderman pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing two hits and two earned runs. Tim Herrin pitched one inning of scoreless relief with one strikeout.

Matt Festa pitched one inning and one-third, allowing two hits and one strikeout.
