Kepler's Historic Night

Christian Walker’s Arizona Diamondbacks teammate Kepler delivered a career-defining performance, hitting three home runs to lead the Diamondbacks to an 8-0 victory over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday at Petco Park. This marked Kepler’s first multi-homer game since returning from an 80-game suspension.

Kepler’s first blast came in the third inning, a 417-foot shot to right field that drove in two runs and extended Arizona’s lead to 6-0. He added a solo shot in the fourth inning, a 377-foot drive to right, and a third solo homer in the sixth inning, a 361-foot blast to left. The three-home run total was the only offensive highlight for Arizona, but it proved sufficient to secure the win.

Diamondbacks Offense Dominates

Arizona’s scoring began early in the first inning. Marte scored on a throwing error by pitcher Walker Buehler, with Perdomo stealing second. Perdomo later scored on another throwing error by Buehler, with Kepler singled to left and safe at second on a throwing error by left fielder Taylor. Moreno also reached third on an error. In the third inning, Gurriel Jr. singled to right, driving in Carroll to make it 3-0. Perdomo’s fourth-inning homer made it 7-0, and Arenado’s sixth-inning homer capped the scoring at 8-0.

The Diamondbacks’ offense was efficient, capitalizing on defensive mistakes and Kepler’s power. The team’s total of eight runs was distributed across multiple innings, with Kepler providing the bulk of the production.

Pitching Duel and Defensive Errors

Arizona’s pitching staff was stellar, limiting the Padres to just two hits over the final five innings. Brandon Pfaadt earned the win, pitching 5.0 innings with four hits, zero earned runs, zero walks, and six strikeouts. Ryan Thompson and Drey Jameson combined for four scoreless innings, allowing two hits each and striking out five batters.

San Diego’s Walker Buehler took the loss, pitching 5.0 innings with seven hits, seven earned runs, one walk, and four strikeouts. Alek Jacob and Ron Marinaccio allowed one earned run over three and one innings, respectively.

The Padres’ defense struggled, committing multiple errors that contributed to Arizona’s early lead. The throwing errors by Buehler and the fielding error by Taylor were pivotal in the first inning, allowing Arizona to build an insurmountable advantage.

Final Score and Records

The Diamondbacks (45-45) improved their record with the win, while the Padres (44-46) fell further behind. The game drew an attendance of 38,204 at Petco Park in San Diego, California. The victory highlighted Arizona’s offensive potential and Kepler’s return to form, while exposing San Diego’s defensive vulnerabilities.
