Rushing Drives Comeback

Rushing was the catalyst for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they erased a significant early deficit to defeat the San Diego Padres 12-7 at Dodger Stadium. The victory, recorded on Friday, July 3, 2026, marked a dramatic shift in momentum for the home team, who trailed by six runs before mounting their offensive surge.

Rushing contributed five RBIs across multiple innings. His impact began in the fourth inning when he scored on a double by Pages, narrowing the gap. He added another run in the fifth on a double by Edman, and then scored again on a wild pitch by Yuki Matsui. Rushing’s offensive output continued in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly that brought Tucker home, and he added an RBI with a single in the eighth inning that also scored Tucker.

Scoring Sequence

San Diego jumped out to a commanding lead early. Machado hit a two-run home run in the first inning, followed by solo homers from Merrill and Cronenworth in the second. Cronenworth’s blast also drove in two additional runs, establishing a 6-0 advantage.

Los Angeles began chipping away at the lead in the second inning when Rushing hit a two-run home run. The Dodgers tied the game in the fourth inning with consecutive hits. Pages doubled to score two runs, Betts doubled to add one, and Muncy singled to score another, making it 6-8. Edman doubled in the fifth to extend the lead to 9-6, and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Padres managed one run in the ninth inning when Andujar singled to score Taylor, making the final margin 12-7. Despite the loss, the Padres’ offense generated significant power, with four home runs total in the game.

Pitching Performances

Will Klein secured the win for Los Angeles, pitching two scoreless innings and striking out three batters. He was supported by Brock Stewart, Alex Vesia, and Edgardo Henriquez, who each pitched one scoreless inning. Paul Gervase and Tanner Scott closed out the game, though Gervase allowed one earned run.

For San Diego, Randy Vasquez started but struggled, allowing six runs on seven hits in three innings. Wandy Peralta took the loss after giving up four runs in one inning. Yuki Matsui allowed two runs in his appearance, and German Marquez gave up two runs over three innings.

The attendance at Dodger Stadium was 54,081. With this result, the Los Angeles Dodgers improved their record to 57-31, while the San Diego Padres fell to .500 at 43-43.
