Pitching Dominance Defines Duel

Detroit Tigers pitcher Troy Melton provided the foundation for the win, allowing just one earned run over six innings of work. He kept the San Francisco Giants’ offense in check by limiting them to four hits and issuing only one walk while striking out five batters. His performance set the stage for a tight contest that would not be decided until extra innings.

The Tigers’ bullpen maintained the lead with flawless execution. Kyle Finnegan pitched 0.2 innings, retiring the side with one strikeout. Drew Sommers followed with 1.1 scoreless frames, adding two more strikeouts to the effort. Kenley Jansen closed the ninth inning without allowing a hit or walk, recording three strikeouts to secure the win.

Tyler Holton earned the save by pitching a perfect final inning, striking out three batters and preventing any damage. On the San Francisco side, Logan Webb started strong, throwing eight innings and allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts.

Dylan Smith contributed an inning of scoreless relief with three strikeouts before Sam Hentges took the loss after giving up a run in 0.1 innings.

Late Action Decides Game

The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the tenth inning. Detroit’s Lee broke the tie by singling to right field, driving in Greene to make it 2-1. The Tigers added insurance immediately after when Clark grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Lee to score from first base and extending the lead to 3-1.

Earlier in the game, the Giants had tied the score in the seventh inning when Gilbert reached on an infield single to third base, scoring Basabe. In the sixth, Detroit took an early 1-0 lead when McKinstry scored after Torres grounded into a double play.

Final Results

The Detroit Tigers defeated the San Francisco Giants 3-1 at Oracle Park in front of 32,200 fans. The victory improved Detroit’s record to 58-60, while San Francisco fell to 49-69.
