Wide receiver Mike Evans returned to practice with the San Francisco 49ers as competition for the left guard position heats up. The team has been evaluating its young wide receivers, asking them to learn all three positions (F, X, or Z) before finalizing their roles. Coaches and teammates have noted that rookie wideout Stribling has adapted well to this challenge.
Stribling has made a strong impression through a dedicated routine that includes studying film daily and verbalizing play calls. He often practices by having others quiz him on the playbook, and he even participated in throwing sessions with fellow wideout Jordan Watkins and quarterbacks Purdy and Jones in Nashville before training camp.
In other practice updates, wide receiver Jacob Cowing, who had been sidelined since August 5 due to a hip flexor injury, returned to the field. During practice, he participated in a running play and caught a pass from Jones.
Defensive coordinator Raheem Morris spoke to reporters following Saturday's training camp practice, providing insights into the team's evaluation of young players after their preseason opener. Additionally, defensive lineman Gracen Halton has been making a notable impact at camp, demonstrating his skills after recovering from a hyperextended knee injury sustained at the start of training camp.
The competition for the left guard position remains tight, with head coach Kyle Shanahan indicating that the team is looking for the best fit for their scheme. Trent Williams commented on the competition, stating it is a three-man race and expressing confidence in Willis's potential.
