The San Francisco 49ers have signed defensive end Jah Joyner as they navigate injury challenges within their roster. Star edge rusher Nick Bosa has been unable to practice for most of August due to a knee issue that also affected him last season.
With several young and inexperienced players filling in on the defensive line, the team is looking to bolster its defense ahead of the upcoming season.
Joyner, a Connecticut native, previously played at the University of Minnesota for five years, where he recorded 32 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks in his final season. After going undrafted in 2025, he joined the Las Vegas Raiders but was waived after participating in three preseason games.
Subsequently, he played for the Houston Gamblers in the United Football League (UFL), where he achieved a notable overall defensive grade of 85.1 according to Pro Football Focus.
The 49ers reportedly met with Joyner on Wednesday before finalizing his signing, as confirmed by Aaron Wilson of KPRC. At 6-foot-4 and approximately 260 pounds, Joyner showcased his athleticism by running a 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.
