Nadame Tucker, an edge rusher standing 6-feet-3 and weighing 250 pounds, is making a mark during his first training camp with the Los Angeles Chargers. As an undrafted free agent, Tucker has embraced his underdog status, particularly after a notable college career that began at the University of Houston before he transferred to Western Michigan.

At Houston, Tucker struggled to find his footing, starting only in 2022 and recording just 10 tackles over three seasons. However, his performance improved dramatically at Western Michigan under defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary. In the 2025 season, Tucker recorded 55 tackles, leading the nation with 21 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks, earning accolades as the Mid-American Conference MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.

O’Leary's belief in Tucker played a significant role in his development. “Just starting off by believing in me,” Tucker said, reflecting on O’Leary’s support. After O’Leary joined the Chargers as defensive coordinator, Tucker followed, eager to prove himself in the NFL.

During training camp, Tucker has stood out among a talented group of pass rushers, including Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu. His aggressive playing style has drawn attention, as he aims to balance intensity with safety during practices. “I’m just a guy who wants to go through your face,” Tucker stated, acknowledging the challenges of showcasing his skills in less physical practice settings.

While making the initial 53-man roster may be a challenge, Tucker has shown promise, including a solid preseason debut where he recorded one tackle and one quarterback hit in a 27-7 victory over the Houston Texans. “I feel like I’m home,” he expressed, emphasizing his comfort with the team and his commitment to learning from veteran players.

In other camp news, defensive lineman Teair Tart was temporarily removed from practice for being overly aggressive during drills, which has been a recurring theme. O’Leary praised Tart for his contributions to the defense, noting his intensity and potential impact on the field. Additionally, left tackle Rashawn Slater has missed practice for a sixth consecutive time, with further details not yet clear.
