The Los Angeles Rams have officially released cornerback Zech McPhearson after reaching an injury settlement on September 5, just weeks before the start of the 2026 regular season.
McPhearson signed with the Rams on August 9 and participated in two preseason games. However, he suffered an undisclosed injury, which led to his placement on injured reserve on August 24, jeopardizing his chance to make the team's roster.
Prior to joining the Rams, McPhearson was a fourth-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021. He played in 33 regular-season games over his first two seasons, including all 17 games in 2022, where he recorded one sack and 14 combined tackles.
His experience on special teams was a factor in the Rams' decision to sign him, especially given their struggles in that area during the previous season.
McPhearson's professional career has been marred by injuries, including a torn Achilles in August 2023 that sidelined him for a season. After being waived by the Eagles in 2024, he spent time on the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad and was later released due to another injury in August 2025.
