Witt Jr. seals late rally
Brenton Doyle Witt Jr. singled to left field in the ninth inning to score the winning run, completing a dramatic rally that gave the Kansas City Royals a 4-3 victory over the Athletics. The away team had pulled within one run in the seventh, but the home side responded in the final frame to take the lead for good.
Attendance at Kauffman Stadium reached 12,009 for the Tuesday contest.
Scoring sequence
The Royals took an early lead in the first inning when White singled to left field, scoring Gelof and advancing Heim to second base. The Athletics managed to score only once in the seventh inning, when Pasquantino doubled to right field to drive in Caglianone.
The game remained tied at 3-3 until the ninth, when Tolbert singled to left field to score two runs, Massey and Rave, before Witt Jr. delivered the decisive hit.
