Gray Dominates Early

Sonny Gray delivered a masterful performance on the mound, securing his 10th win of the season as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Los Angeles Angels 8-1 on Sunday. Gray pitched six innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out seven batters. His ability to neutralize the Angels' lineup early set the tone for Boston’s offensive explosion.

The Red Sox jumped out to a commanding lead in the first inning. Contreras launched a 421-foot home run to left field, driving in Seigler and Abreu to make it 3-0. The Angels managed to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the second inning when Lowe hit a 437-foot homer to center field, but Boston quickly reasserted its dominance in the fifth.

Offensive Surge in Fifth

Boston’s offense continued to pile on runs in the fifth inning. Abreu doubled to right field, bringing Rafaela and Seigler home to extend the lead to 5-1. The momentum did not stop there, as Gonzalez followed with a 368-foot home run to left, scoring Abreu and pushing the score to 7-1. These two innings accounted for five of Boston’s eight runs, effectively putting the game out of reach.

Relief Pitching Holds Strong

The Boston bullpen maintained the lead with scoreless innings. Jovani Moran worked one inning, striking out two batters. Greg Weissert pitched the eighth inning, issuing one walk but allowing no hits or runs. Alec Gamboa closed out the game in the ninth, striking out two batters without allowing any baserunners.

For the Angels, the pitching staff struggled to contain Boston’s power. Sam Aldegheri took the loss after pitching four innings, allowing three earned runs on one hit and walking four batters. Samy Natera Jr. entered in relief but gave up four earned runs on three hits in 0.2 innings. Ryan Zeferjahn and Chase Silseth each pitched scoreless innings, while Brent Suter allowed one earned run in two innings of work.

Final Score and Records

The Red Sox added an insurance run in the eighth inning when Rafaela doubled to left, scoring Monasterio. The final score of 8-1 reflected Boston’s comprehensive control of the game. The Angels managed only one run all game, despite having several opportunities to score.

With the victory, the Red Sox improved their record to 39-48. The Angels fell to 36-54. The game was played at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, with an attendance of 43,599.
