During a joint practice session on Tuesday morning in El Segundo, California, Los Angeles Chargers center Tyler Biadasz sustained a leg injury after just seven plays. The injury occurred when 49ers defensive lineman Sebastian Valdez was blocked into Biadasz's leg by Chargers left guard Kayode Awosika.
Biadasz was seen in pain on the ground and was subsequently carted off the field, visibly frustrated as he hit the cart multiple times.
Quarterback Justin Herbert and several teammates approached Biadasz to offer support, with Herbert expressing hope for a positive outcome regarding the injury. The Chargers are currently awaiting further medical evaluations to determine the severity of Biadasz's condition.
In light of Biadasz's injury, rookie center Jake Slaughter, who had been primarily practicing with the second team, stepped in to take his place. Slaughter expressed concern for Biadasz, describing him as a significant mentor and leader.
He acknowledged the mixed results of his performance during the practice, noting that he was beaten by 49ers defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa but also had some success in the run game.
Herbert praised Slaughter's ability to adapt quickly to the first-team offense, highlighting his understanding of the system and skills as a pass protector. The Chargers appear to be better prepared for such injuries this season, having drafted Slaughter in the third round, who was recognized as one of the top centers in college football.
